12 to 18 May 2011, Duesseldorf

For the third time in a row, European Bioplastics and Messe Düsseldorf presented a large group exhibition about “Bioplastics in Packaging”. The bioplastics shows with more than 10,000 trade visitors each, sold-out exhibition space and a high interest of public and media give evidence of the importance of sustainable technologies for biobased and compostable packaging.

Joint communication approach for an attractive industry representation
For the Interpack 2011, European Bioplastics teamed up with strong partners and co-exhibitors from the bioplastics industry to create an experienceable industry representation.
Together, the cooperation partners showcased the benefits and the dynamically developing status of the bioplastics industry in the pioneering packaging sector.
The European Bioplastics stand functioned as an information hub for the bioplastics exhibitors, introduce visitors to the well-known partners, and guiding all visitors through the “bioplastics world”.

Global interest in bioplastics continues apace as developments in technology bring greater performance capabilities, and investments in the end-of-life handling solutions help support the environmental credentials of this packaging option. Major retailers all over Europe offer food packaging made of bioplastics, and brand owners from the electronic and the automotive sector are more and more focussing on bioplastics materials.
Many leading companies and newcomers have announced investments in expanding the production capacities of bioplastics within the upcoming years. From a figure of around 700,000 tonnes in 2010, the production capacity for bioplastics will increase to a predicted 1.7 million tonnes by 2015.
